The Best Mediterranean Yacht Charter Routes
3 min read · Last reviewed August 2026

The Mediterranean is not one cruising ground but a dozen, each with its own character, wind and dinner reservations. These are the Mediterranean yacht charter routes we plan most often — and who each one suits.
1. The Cyclades, Greece — for drama
Mykonos → Paros → Naxos → Ios → Santorini. Whitewashed villages, luminous water and the famous meltemi wind, which builds in July and August — brilliant sailing, occasionally lively seas. Early June and September are the connoisseur’s months. Suits: confident groups who want icons and energy.
2. The Ionian, Greece — for ease
Corfu → Paxos → Antipaxos → Lefkada → Ithaca → Kefalonia. Gentle afternoon breezes, short hops, olive-green islands and calm anchorages — the Mediterranean’s most forgiving waters. Suits: families, first charters and anyone allergic to swell.
3. Amalfi Coast & the islands, Italy — for romance
Naples → Capri → Positano → Amalfi → Ischia, with Pompeii a tender ride away. Short distances, operatic scenery and the best table-side people-watching afloat. Anchorages are busy in August; May, June and September are golden. Suits: couples, honeymoons and celebrations, food-first travellers.
4. The French & Italian Riviera — for glamour
Monaco → Cannes → Saint-Tropez → Portofino, with the Îles de Lérins and Porquerolles for quiet swims between the show. This is the route for beach clubs, galleries and grand harbours. Suits: motor yachts, style-driven groups, event weeks (film festival, Grand Prix — book far ahead).
5. Dalmatian Coast, Croatia — for variety
Split → Hvar → Vis → Korčula → Mljet → Dubrovnik. A thousand islands, medieval harbour towns, pine-fringed coves and superb value relative to the western Med. Suits: mixed groups who want history at breakfast and a swim by noon.
Planning notes
- Season: late May to early October; July–August is peak in price and crowds alike.
- Pace: five to six harbours in a week is ideal — resist the urge to collect ports. Pack soft, too: see packing for luxury travel.
- One-way charters (e.g. Split to Dubrovnik) cost a repositioning fee and are worth it. Getting to the start line is its own decision — a short private flight often replaces two connections.
Tell us your group and your month — our concierge desk will match the route, the yacht and the tables ashore, and add the villa to bookend the week if you want land either side. Start with our charter service.
